This adaptive course can be used for preparation to the Data Sufficiency section of the GMAT test. Each problem consists of a question and two statements, labeled (1) and (2), in which certain data are given. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements are sufficient for answering the question. Using the data given in the statements, plus your knowledge of mathematics and everyday facts, you must indicate whether:

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
C. BOTH statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are sufficient to answer the question asked, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data specific to the problem are needed.

Note that it is not necessary to solve the problem. It is enough to answer the question on data sufficiency.

The course consists of few hundreds of programming assignments for Java, ranging from basics up to complex topics.

The course is adaptive what means that you can not follow a linear pre-set structure of the course, the adaptive engine generates a unique path for each student.

In the course you'll have extra buttons on the top of the page like this:

The first button becomes active only after you successfully solve the problem. If the problem seems too difficult or too easy, you can click on one of the buttons on the right, the engine will take into account the knowledge level for future content recommendations.

Данный курс предназначен для новичков в визуальном программировании, почувствовавших стремление автоматизировать свою работу в среде Autodesk Revit, а также расширить свои возможности по созданию сложных параметрических форм, не прибегая при этом к сторонним продуктам. Dynamo является встроенным в программу Revit плагином по визуальному программированию. Course goals:

2. Give the initial knowledge of how to design cities.

The course starts with cases answering questions of why, how and where and depicting different cities. 

The second part of the course touches more practical study and shows how such games as The Settlers of Catan, Age of Empires, Star Craft, Heroes of Might and Magic, Clash of Clans, Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, various Tycoons, Battle City and others could be helpful in understanding main principles of City Design. Yes, here practical study means playing these games.

The third part of the course is dedicated to unreal cities (like the city in Monsters, Inc.) and how to make current cities better. Also there will be a place for ideas of future cities as space or underwater cities. Finally, the last part of the course describes how algorithms, programming (remember labyrinths in Inception movie?) and math logic ease the process of designing the city.

This interactive textbook was written with the intention of teaching Computer Science students about various data structures as well as the applications in which each data structure would be appropriate to use. It is currently being used at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), the University of San Diego (USD), and the University of Puerto Rico (UPR).

This textbook utilizes the Active Learning approach to instruction, meaning it has various activities embedded throughout to help stimulate your learning and improve your understanding of the materials we will cover. Methodological system of the course “Fundamentals of General Chemistry” focuses on effective assimilation of knowledge and development of students’ skills in reading, interpretation and solution of tasks in chemistry in English. The course includes an advanced study of selected topics of General chemistry in English: thermochemistry, chemical equilibrium, and chemical kinetics.

The results of studying the course will be:

1. Mastering of scientific terminology and theoretical bases in accordance with the basic theoretical blocks, including thermochemistry, chemical equilibrium, and chemical kinetics.

2. Skills of solving tests and exercises in chemistry in English in accordance with advanced programs.

3. Skills in solving chemical problems and providing a written solution in English.

4. Skills of self-study of educational, scientific, reference literature in English, and effective orientation in specialized Internet chemical sites.


The course comprises 3 modules.

Module 1 is devoted to Fundamentals of Thermochemistry.  Studying heat changes is called thermochemistry and is important for both practical and theoretical reasons. Practical applications in relation to any biochemical processes include measuring the energy values and determining energy requirements of physiological processes. Theoretical considerations include working out the energy to break particular bonds and calculating energy changes for hypothetical reactions. This module includes study of basic definitions of thermochemistry, Law of energy conservation (1st Law of Thermodynamics), thermodynamic functions and state functions, properties of enthalpy, Hess`s Law of heat summation and its practical applications, bond energies and enthalpy changes.

After completing module 1 students should be able to

-         explain that some chemical reactions and biochemical processes are accompanied by energy change, mainly in the form of heat energy;

-         construct and interpret a reaction pathway diagram in terms of the reaction enthalpy change;

-         explain and use the terms standard heat of formation, standard heat of combustion, bond enthalpy;

-         apply Hess`s Law to construct simple energy cycles and carry out calculations involving such cycles;

-         show understanding of chemical reactions in terms of energy transfers associated with the chemical bonds breaking or formation.


Module 2 is about Equilibrium.  Equilibrium is one of the key ideas of chemistry. The definition of equilibrium in the dictionary is “balance or harmony of opposing forces”. Chemical equilibrium is also about balance – between the forward and back directions of reversible reactions. Understanding the principles of equilibrium is essential to the appreciation of acid-base chemistry and to the control of different processes, including biochemical processes. The unit includes study of chemical equilibrium features, Law of mass action and thermodynamic equilibrium constant in terms of concentration and partial pressure, Le Chatelier`s Principle of displacement of equilibrium, Brønsted-Lowry acid-base theory, pH of a solution, ion product of water, and basic principles to use ICE table for tasks solution.

After completing module 2 students should be able to

-         explain in terms of the forward and reverse reactions, what is meant by reversible reaction and dynamic chemical equilibrium;

-         state Le Chatelier`s Principle and apply it to deduce qualitatively (from the appropriate information) the effect of changes in temperature concentration, and pressure on a system at equilibrium;

-         deduce expressions for equilibrium constants in term of concentrations, Kc, and partial pressure, Kp;

-         show understanding of, and use, the Brønsted-Lowry theory of acids and bases;

-         explain definitions pH of solution and ion product of water;

-         calculate the value of equilibrium constants in terms of concentrations or partial pressures from appropriate data, using ICE table.


Module 3 deals with Kinetics. The word ‘kinetic’ meaning ‘moving’ comes from the same root as the word ‘cinema’. Reaction kinetics is the study of the rates of chemical reactions and the factors that influence them. The data gathered rate experiments give us an insight into how a reaction takes place. We can then make deduction about the reaction mechanism.

The unit includes study of the main kinetics terms: molecularity, rate and order of chemical reaction; Rate Law and rate constant; kinetic derivation of the equation for the equilibrium constant; methods for determination of chemical reaction order; kinetic equations and their solutions; Van`t Hoff and Arrhenius equations; activation energy and energy diagrams for exothermic and endothermic processes.

After completing this module you should be able to

-         explain and use the terms: molecularity and order of chemical reaction, rate of reaction, rate constant, temperature coefficient of the reaction rate, activation energy;

-         explain quantitatively, in terms of Rate Law, the effect of concentration changes on the reaction rate;

-         apply methods for determination of chemical reaction order;  

-         show understanding of what is meant by the term activation energy;

-         explain qualitatively, in terms of collision theory, the effect of temperature change on the rate of a reaction;

-         construct and interpret energy diagrams for exothermic and endothermic processes and use kinetic equations for tasks solution.

Linear algebra is an area of mathematics which studies linear functions and linear equations. If this sounds too simple, notice that the arguments and values of linear functions can be not only numbers, but also vectors, and this leads to very beautiful structures which we are going to study in this course. Moreover, linear algebra allows to study some nonlinear objects, such as quadratic forms!

Linear algebra has applications in almost any field one can imagine: physics, computer science, chemistry, economics, engineering and many, many others. It is also deeply connected to the other areas of mathematics, such as calculus, probability, group theory, differential equations etc. Ultimately, linear algebra is very exciting on its own: it allows to use geometry when algebra gets very complicated, and vice versa!

What is the best way to study linear algebra? As many other areas of mathematics, linear algebra has some building blocks:

  • key concepts,
  • main results,
  • common tricks;

The number of such building blocks is many times less than the number of pages in a typical textbook on linear algebra. At the same time, once you know these building blocks, you are ready to use linear algebra!

The goal of this course is to help you to find and understand the building blocks of linear algebra. Moreover, it is important to develop your personal vision and intuition about them. This cannot be achieved by solving 1000 similar typical exam problems. In this course you will be provided with a sort of "minimal linear algebra kit", so that you can manage the saved time yourself. In particular, you are encouraged to discuss the lessons here at stepic, to participate in competitions and other events at your campus, and to surf web resources such as math.stackexchange.com, mathoverflow.net, dxdy.ru (in Russian), arxiv.org and of course Wikipedia. If you are enrolled in a traditional course of linear algebra, you will benefit from this course too, since it is not designed to substitute the traditional courses.
